Relocation During Covid-19 Lockdown

Relocation During Covid-19 Lockdown

Covid-19 has changed everything in our everyday lives. Selling and buying property may be possible from the comfort of your own sofa, but relocating is a different ballgame. There is no getting around it, the physical move is probably the hardest part of relocation, and doing it during lockdown and a global pandemic makes it even harder. This is why we have all the tips and tricks on how to make the best, safest relocation – long distance or otherwise, during the pandemic.

Are you legally allowed to move / relocate during lockdown?

The first thing to note is that moving is an essential service, like the supermarkets or pharmacies.
This is a general rule pf thumb, but you should always check the rules and regulations in your state, because they can change from time to time. ( CDC recommendations)

Are you at risk?

If you are in a high-risk group, and you haven’t been vaccinated yet, you should practice these rules: (note: you should probably practice these anyway.)

  • Social distancing: keep your distance from other people, don’t shake hands or hug, and if you can afford it- hire professional Chicago movers to do all the work for you, while you take a relaxing day off.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, multiple times a day.
  • Take some hand sanitizer (if there is no sink and soap available), and disinfecting wipes, and sterilize any surfaces other people have touched.

Are movers still working?

Professional movers will work, come rain or shine, and get you where you need to go. They will take care of everything, from packing, to cleaning, changing locks, storage, and anything else you can think of.

The only difference is, you cannot get an at – home – estimate, since moving companies now offer virtual surveys to give you an estimate.

What do moving companies change because of covid-19?

  • Wearing masks and gloves.
  • Sanitizing moving trucks and moving equipment.
  • Social distancing: offering virtual surveys and keeping away from customers.
  • Following federal and local guidelines in regards to covid-19.

Don’t forget

  • In case you or people involved in the move have been infected with covid-19, or they feel sick, or they need to quarantine, make sure to contact your moving company and let them know.
  • Get new boxes – do not use previously owned boxes from the local supermarket, as they may infect you from the cardboard.

We wish you a safe and healthy relocation, make sure to call us for an estimate or any questions you may have.
