If you are relocating for the first time, it can be quite a challenging thing to do because you have zero experience in moving, transporting your belongings, etc. We are humans, and that is why we make mistakes. Also, when it comes to moving, we can do many things wrong, but there is no need for despair – there is a way to correct the mistakes and to make the situation better.

Relocation can be extremely stressful if you don’t know how to cope with it, but it can also go seamlessly if you know how to detect your own wrongs and make them right. Are you having a hard time organizing a relocation? We are here to help you with our tips on how to detect your moving mistakes and correct them easily.

Fail #1: Procrastinating

Procrastination is one of the illnesses of today, and it goes into every segment of our life – work, school, our ultimate life goals. Same goes with moving – if you put off your tasks for later thinking ‘there is still enough time,’ you can easily end up in despair, realizing there is no way to get all the job done on time.

Solution: Make a to-do list immediately and see what the most time-consuming tasks are, then complete those first. Having a checklist and some kind of a plan at the beginning will help you have more control over the situation and minimize procrastination. Like the Nike people would say – just do it.

Fail #2: Choosing the wrong moving company

Making a mistake with a relocation company can happen to anyone, and it’s not strange, especially if you don’t have any experience in relocations. In that case, you don’t know what the key points of dependable and reputable movers are. That is why you can end up hiring people who don’t do a great job and leave you unsatisfied and disappointed.

Solution: To avoid hiring a non-reputable relocation company or, even worse, scammers, make sure to take a bit more time on it. Search only the ones with certifications and a license, take some time to read the reviews, ask them questions and wait for the answers, etc. Find as many clues that can confirm you are hiring a dedicated, professional moving team.

Fail #3: Not doing the cleanup before packing

This is a major fail because it results in more overall work on packing, as well as the higher moving cost. You will end up relocating the stuff you don’t really need, and you could get rid of them sooner.

Solution: If you decided on a cleanup a bit late, there is still time to minimize the damage – while packing, sort the undesired belongings into separate piles for throwing away, donating, or selling.

Fail #4: Skipping on labeling boxes

This mistake can turn into a real disaster when you move into a new home – it can result in complete chaos since you don’t know which boxes belong to which room.

Solution: The best advice here is pre-labeling – prepare the boxes beforehand, in the case you think you might forget about it later. Also, you can label each box right after you finish filling it.
