Who is excited about packing their entire household for a big move? Well, let’s be real – no one. It is a tedious and time-consuming task, but if you approach it systematically and with care, it can be executed flawlessly. Packing all your footwear sounds so boring, but it’s one of the things you want to do correctly. When packing the shoes comes to your mind, you just might think “I’ll throw all that in a plastic bag and call it a day.” Don’t do it – if you appreciate your shoe collection at least a little, you know it will ruin your shoes.

Even though packing shoes can be tedious, our pieces of advice will help you do it the right way and minimize the packing time. Show your shoes some respect!

Before packing

Make sure that you and your family members sort out the shoes. It is the best to get rid of the shoes you haven’t worn for years, and you know you won’t wear again. Also, it would be a pretty stupid idea just to pack all the footwear and pay for relocating the stuff you won’t use anymore. So, purging is a must. Make sure the shoes are clean and stuff them with paper, so they don’t lose form.

One more essential step is to choose the shoes or sneakers you’ll wear on the moving day. Choose the comfortable footwear that doesn’t slip and slide and make sure it’s a closed model that protects your feet.

Ready, Set, Pack!

Your shoes can be packed neatly in many ways. If you kept the original shoe boxes, the packing would be easier, but it won’t be too much of a hassle if you pack it them in a bigger cardboard box. Either way, be sure to avoid putting shoes in a plastic bag – that can ruin them and grow mold inside the bag.

If you are packing the shoes in original shoe boxes, you can choose whether you want to wrap them in paper or not – it also depends on how sensitive the particular shoes are. On the other hand, if you pack them in the bigger boxes, use the paper to wrap them individually before placing them inside. Also, put the heavier shoe pairs on the bottom – that will minimize the potential damage to your shoes. You might have some shoes that take extra care because of the material or color or a few expensive pairs that need to be ‘wined and dined’ so make sure to protect them carefully.

For the high heel wearers – use the bubble wrap to protect each heel and then use the paper for the entire shoe. It will prevent the heel to pierce through the cardboard box or damage the other pairs. Finally, neither half-empty boxes nor overloaded ones are a good idea. When you take good care of your shoe collection, it will be so satisfying to open the shoe boxes and unwrap them in your new home. What a delight to walk in your shoes through a new neighborhood in Chicago!
