The crucial point of executing a smooth move is to be well-prepared for it. When we say ‘be prepared’ means ‘engage in your relocation 100% and plan as many details as possible.’ Relocating your entire household can be a stressful task whether you move inside or outside the Chicago area. Maybe you could think of all the details that might matter on a moving day, but – clothes? Is really that important what we wear on a moving day? Here are some simple reasons why our choice of apparel is significant and what to wear while moving.
Why do the clothes matter on a moving day?
You’ll probably be too busy with other segments of the move rather than with what clothes and accessories to pick. But, if you are the person who is going to be engaged in moving around smaller or bigger boxes, or even furniture, on a moving day, these certainly are the things you should be mindful of. There are two crucial points when it comes to clothes:
- Above all, the clothes should be safe to wear – forget anything that can cause an injury in any way. Some clothes and accessories can be cute but can cause an injury, and we don’t want that.
- For your relocation-day outfit, make sure to choose comfort instead of being fashionable.
What To Wear for a Move?
- Clothes with a close fit – you don’t want your shirts or pants to be too loose so they can get caught in something while carrying items. That way it can easily tear or cause a more serious injury.
- Season-appropriate outfit – This does sound like a no-brainer – dress lightly for the summer days and more layers in the winter time. However, make sure not to over-dress in the cold days because too many warm clothes on you during all that picking-up, walking up and down and lifting can make you sweaty.
- Breathable fabric – I can’t stress enough how natural, breathable materials are essential for your choice of clothes. Allow your skin to breathe – well, this would be my advice for everyday clothes, but especially for the time when you move and sweat a lot.
- Practical wear – It would be perfect if you could wear clothes that are comfortable, but also work-friendly. Pants with some multiple pockets with zippers would be ideal. You want to keep your cell phone or keys with you, but not to lose them during the busy moving day. A lucky bonus would be if you could fit ducktape or a screwdriver into one of those pockets.
- Clothes you don’t care much about – I bet you saw this one coming. You shouldn’t be sorry for the moving-day garments. You have to be able to get dirty or even to be ready that your shirt or pants can get torn or damaged during the moving day. That is why dispensable garments are a perfect choice for that day.
- Enclosed, comfortable shoes – Last but not least, you need stable, comfortable and enclosed shoes. Avoid anything that can make you slip, as well as open toes to avoid injuries.
