Moving Electronics – An Easy How-To

Moving Electronics – An Easy How-To

Some of our most common packing valuables are electronic devices. Also, they are the ones that are very high on the easily-damaged list and can give you lots of headaches if not packed carefully. Do you have all the needed supplies to properly pack a desktop PC, your huge TV set or something of that kind? How about that kids’ gaming console that was so expensive it hurts? Since you would do anything for your kids and you also prove it by buying them that ridiculously costly XBOX, make sure to protect it the right way.

Electronic Files Need Backup

Make sure to save all the data that has to be saved before it’s too late. If something breaks – God forbid – you will have all your valuable data safe and sound. Don’t get one back-up. Get two and double the safety.

Don’t Mess Up the Cables!

Are you taking all the cables away and mixing them all? Do you even think about re-assembling those? Take pictures and label them correctly, so you don’t cry when having to re-assemble. Get crazy with the colored labeling (which cable goes where – match those colors), make it fun! Also, carefully protect each end since they can break easily, wrap them – if they are inside the box with the device, make sure they don’t move too much and damage the surface.

Save the Boxes

Sometimes, the best protection and the safest option to transport electronics is to put them in their original boxes. So, whenever you have the chance, make sure to save those boxes, including all the cute Styrofoam inside.

Bubble-Wrap Your Existence

Not only is fun playing with it afterward, but aside from the previously mentioned option, bubble wrap is the master of securing fragile.

Blankets are Cool for Safeguarding Electronics

Blankets are also soft and useful for wrapping these devices, but also for filling up the additional space in a big box, so the device doesn’t move anywhere.

Insurance? Yes, Please!

When you are relocating electronics, no matter how well you think you packed them, make sure to get the insurance for these goods. Expensive and valuable items like these are not so easy to compensate sometimes. Play it safe!

Passwords

Of course you won’t think about how strong or weak your, for example, PC passwords are when they are in your house. But, you have to mindful of the fact that, while transporting, especially long distance or when being stored somewhere, your device won’t be with you. Consider changing your passwords if they aren’t strong enough.
