Preparing for a relocation takes organizing and patience, especially if you are packing all the belongings on your own. Whether you are relocating inside Chicago or moving out of state Illinois, it doesn’t make much of a difference as it won’t make it any easier. However, with the right packing supplies, packing can go much smoother and faster. Here are some essential items to ease you into relocation.
Plastic or Cardboard Boxes
Even though this one is a no-brainer, it has to be the first thing on the list. You can buy or rent the boxes, but make sure to clean them before use. However, boxes are great because you probably have some already lying around your home – put them to good use. Original boxes of electrical appliances that you saved are particularly helpful.
Packing paper, tape, scissors
Packing paper will protect many items from getting scratched and nicked, such as kitchenware, electronics, etc. Fortunately, for those who are budgeting, packing paper can be DIY-ed with the newspapers. The tape will help you secure the cardboard boxes so make sure to get the durable one.
Bubble Wrap
For the most fragile items, bubble wrap comes as a savior. If you have any antiques, porcelain, or anything else that is delicate, make sure to protect them with bubble wrap. Since it’s one of the most expensive moving supplies, use it smart and sparingly.
Tools
If you, by any chance, don’t have tools in your home, here is a reminder. To those for whom this tip is a no-brainer – make sure to keep your tools ready and know where they are during the hectic moving process. Your Chicago moving team might have tools on them, but it’s best not to rely on that option if you are DIY-ing the packing.
Cleaning Products
To make your items clean and ready to freshly unpack in the new home, but most importantly, sanitized and free of unwanted bacteria (germs are everywhere, not only COVID), you need good cleaning supplies. Get sanitizing products, wet wipes, paper towels, etc. to make your packing process nice and sanitary.
